Overview

The hybrid event conducted under Chatham House rules was the second of such regional conferences on security and governance that the SVNP has organized following the recent security and socio-political developments in West and North Africa. The conference brought together regional experts and thought leaders for a two-day interactive discussion to explore the changing security and socio-political dynamics in the Sahel-Maghreb region, examine the role of external actors, discuss the impacts of the reemergence of military coups in the region, and offer policy recommendations that can inform the actions of national and international government, non-government actors, and the private sector.

A conference report sharing outcomes from the event is available for download below.

This regional policy conference and report was part of the Southern Voices Network for Peacebuilding  (SVNP) series designed to bring SVNP, local and regional stakeholders, and policymakers for a policy-oriented dialogue on a set of issues of importance to that region – in this case, the Sahel-Maghreb region, which consists of the countries located in North Africa and the Sahel.
